MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball player Lyndi Hostetter was crowned Queen of the Mountain at a 2-on-2 tournament held at Bozeman last weekend.
"It was pretty exciting," Hostetter said. "It was totally unexpected."
Hostetter and 64 competitors, ranging from MSU-Bozeman Division I players to players from other Frontier Conference schools in Montana, was bracketed with 16 other spikers and competed within the bracket.
She was rebracketed four times, before being named the winner, based on wins and points.
Hostetter lost just three matches in the tournament.
"It was pretty tough competition," she said.
During her sophomore year at Northern, Hostetter, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Eagan, Minn., broke the school record for individual passing on the season. She managed a 93.8 percent and finished third in the Frontier Conference.
The Skylights, who finished this season 5-7 in conference play and 7-15 overall, are currently running spring drills to prepare for next season.
Head coach Lisa Handley is also in the process of heavily recruiting for the Skylights. Their first match will be Aug. 24-25 at the Dickinson State Tournament in Dickinson, N.D.
