Blue Pony tracksters shine at Glasgow

Both the boys' and the girls' Havre Blue Pony track teams won titles at the Glasgow Invitational on Saturday.

The boys finished with 108 points and the girls with 129 points.

"Everybody did so well," head coach John Ita said. "The kids were well-prepared."

On the boys' side, junior Brent Finneman won the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.8.

Senior Jake Dusek placed first in the triple jump, leaping 41-4 1/2.

Chris Klobofski, a senior, placed first in the shot put with a throw of 45-8 1/2. Klobofski placed second in the discus with a throw of 123-5.

Freshman Steve Heberly placed second in the 100 (11.7) and second in the 200 (24.6).

"We took a lot of young people who performed well in a lot of different areas," Ita said.

Junior Brian DeRosa placed second in the high jump, clearing 5-8. He placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.3, and fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.3.

Adam Landgraf, a junior, placed third in the 100 with a time of 11.8.

Senior Matt Sasaki placed third in the shot put with a throw of 41-1.

Sophomore Jacob Lorang placed fourth in the high jump at 5-2.

Shawn Solomon finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 108-3.

Juniors Joey Roman and Grant Roman finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 800 with times of 2:12.6 and 2:16.5.

Brandon Crawford, a sophomore, cleared 5-2 for a fifth-place finish in the high jump.

The boys' 400-meter relay placed first with a time of 45.3.

"I am very pleased with the way the kids competed," Ita said. "They either matched their PR (personal-best record) or beat their PR."

On the girls' side, junior Alyssa Matter placed first in the 100 with a time of 13.8.

Sophomore Jamie Branden finished third in the race in 14.1.

Junior Jennie Peterson placed first in the 3,200 with a time of 12:20.8. She finished more than one minute ahead of her nearest opponent.

Peterson also placed second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:30.1, just five-tenths of one second behind the first-place finisher.

Freshman Jenna Baltrusch finished third in the 800 (2:37.4) and third in the 1,600 (5:49.4). Junior Jillian Brough placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:40.8.

Karla McCormick finished third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.2. She also placed fifth in the 100 hurdles, clocking in at 18.5.

Tamara Sullens and Sherry Winchell both posted fifth-place finishes. Sullens clocked in at 30.8 in the 200 and Winchell clocked in at 1:08.0 in the 400.

Freshman Brooke Schwan finished fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 56.4. She also placed fourth in the high jump at 4-6.

The Havre girls won the 400 relay with a time of 55.3.

"We did pretty well if look at times, distances, and heights," Ita said.

Sophomore Amy Ranes placed first in the high jump at 4-8. Ranes was second in the triple jump with a jump of 30-5 1/4.

Senior Tami Huestis won the discus with a throw of 100-10.

Sophomore Jayla McPherson placed third in the shot put with a throw of 31-2. She was fifth in the discus with a throw of 84-8.

Freshman Jeanna McPherson was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 3-10.

Sophomore Jeri Matter finished sixth in the high jump with a jump of 4-4. She was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 90-4.

Freshman Sara Suek was fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-4.

"It's hard to tell how well we really did," Ita said. "Not a lot of teams were up to full strength. A lot of teams left a lot of varsity kids home, but, so did we."

The track team will be home on Thursday, competing in the KG Invitational.

"We can't sit back on it," Ita said. "We got a chance to see what some kids could do."
