If things roll smoothly from here, KG is right on track to its third-straight Class C boys' track and field title.
Joey Stuart, Aaron Smith, Justin Antonich, Eric Hanson, and Jared Miller finished in the top 10 as point-getters for the KouGars at the KG Invitational held at the Havre Middle School on Wednesday.
It was the first outdoor meet of the year for the squad, who won the title with 156 points.
The Big Sandy girls claimed first place with 100 points.
Jenny Silvan was the leading point-getter for the Pioneers at the meet.
KG's Stuart posted first-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles, 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay. He finished third in the long jump and triple jump.
Smith finished first in the 1,600 with a time of 4:46.2 and first in the 3,200 in 10:12. He was followed by Hanson who finished second in the 1,600 and first in the 800.
Antonich placed first in the javelin with a toss of 16310, and second in the 110-meter hurdles for the KouGars.
Miller was a member of the 1,600 relay and also placed in the 110 hurdles (3rd), high jump (4th), and pole vault (4th).
Senior Eric Marshall was a member of both relay teams and he finished third in the 200 and fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.52.
Virgil Stewart placed third in the 3,200 and fourth in the javelin, while teammate Matt Aageson finished fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100. He was also a member of the 400-meter relay.
Big Sandy's Mace Mangold and Lance Nelson finished one-two in the pole vault, finishing with jumps of 129 and 116, respectively.
Ross Runnion of Big Sandy finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:10.04.
J-I's Joe Kvernum placed fourth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 3,200 to pace the Rams.
On the girls' side, Chester's Maci Tempel and Michele were the leading point-getters at the meet, however the Coyotes could not hold off the strong Big Sandy team. Chester placed second with 77 points.
Tempel placed first in the 200 with a time of 29.19, second in the 400 in 67.7, third in the 1,600-meter relay, third in the 300 hurdles, and fifth in the 400-meter relay.
VanDyke placed first in the high jump, third in the 1,600 relay, third in the 800, fourth in the 400, and sixth in the triple jump.
Lindsey Letang of Blue Sky fared well in the mid-to-long distances, finishing first in the 800 with a time of 2:37.7, first in the 1,600 with a time of 6:01.2, and fifth in the 1,600-meter relay.
Kate Bitz of Big Sandy did well for her team, placing first in the 400 in 66.5, first in the 1,600-meter relay and fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:14.7.
The Pioneers' Lindsey Danreuther was a member of the first-place finishing 400-meter relay team with teammates Celeste Darlington, Kristi Upham, and Amy Silvan. The team clocked in at 55.34
Danreuther also placed second in the 200 with a time of 29.8, fourth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 100 hurdles
Big Sandy put three in the top six finalists in the 100 hurdles, with Celeste Darlington placing first in 17.77. Jenny Silvan was second in 17.83.
Caryle Reddig of Blue Sky placed third in the long and triple jumps and fourth in the 100. Blue Sky finished fifth with 50 points.
Blue Sky's Natalie Strissel finished first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.27. Danreuther and Jenny Silvan placed fourth and sixth, respectively in the event.
Big Sandy won the 1,600-meter relay behind the wheels of Sheena Darlington, Eryn Darlington, Silvan, and Bitz. They finished with a time of 4:32.4.
J-I's Angela Peek fared well for the District 9C overall in the field events, tossing the shot put 3010 for a third-place finish and throwing the discus 903, finishing sixth in the event.
