By Michael Heins

Prepare for a musical treat, Havre High School is hosting a free concert for the community at 7 p.m. Monday, April 10.

The United States Air Force Heartland of America Band is proud to present their Brass Quintet band called the Offutt Brass.

A chamber ensemble composed of brass players from the concert, the Brass Quintet performs for military as well as civilian audiences in a number of different settings around the community. Part of their mission is to aid recruiting by performing in schools and Universities, often sharing their expertise with the music students in clinics.

The brass band also plans to meet with the Havre High School band class April 11 from 9 a.m. to noon.

"They will perform for the kids to demonstrate what a professional band sounds like and also work with them to help with their musical skills," said Airman First and Operation Officer Jennifer Bales.

"We are happy to go to Havre and perform. The band has not gone too much to Montana in the past and we are thrilled about it. Part of our purpose is for community relations and to let people know that the Air Force is there for them and its a good musical experience."

The band will be performing such pieces as "America the Beautiful," "Armenian scenes" and an adaptation for "On the Trail from the Grand Canyon Suite."

Every player in the band is professional and has a college degree. Some of them have a masters degree or at least a bachelors degree.

"We have really top notch players in the band and we are ready to play professionally," Bales said.

Stationed at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Neb., they are known throughout the United States for their outstanding performance and recordings.

The group consist of classical, jazz, and standard brass quintet music showcasing their diversity. At home in large auditoriums or in more intimate chamber concerts, the brass quintet will take an audience on a tour of the world's most beautiful and exciting music. The members of the group are soloists in their own right and together they render the perfect blend of tone, expression and traditional expression.
