After nearly two months living in motels, MSU-Northern Chancellor Mike Rao and his family are finally in a house again.
Credit must be given to the people who worked so hard to find the Raos someplace to stay. The search began almost immediately to find some way to get them into an appropriate house. Delores Ball, Rao's administrative assistant, and the rest of his staff were constantly searching to find the Raos a spot to stay in, while also working to keep his office running smoothly.
Our thanks go out to the donor and to the MSU-Northern Foundation, headed by Tom Reynolds, who worked together to get the chancellor back into an environment where he can concentrate more fully on the needs of the university.
Rao is now able to spend more time working on his duties instead of trying to remember if he and his wife have enough clean clothes with them, or whether they have what they need to take care of their infant son.
They now have a space to keep their belongings and a place to work and entertain, instead of living out of a suitcase with a laptop computer being their only workspace.
We salute the people who have successfully worked to find the Raos a place to live and work. Their effort, cooperation and charity is admirable.
We hope that the state can work as well to finally decide what it will do with the damaged house the Raos had been living in, instead of leaving dollars and time tied up in an unlivable property.
