The Chinook Sugarbeeters' golf team got a warm-up for the Havre Invitational when they dualed with the Havre Blue Ponies at the Beaver Creek Golf Course on Monday.
"It was a chance to invite the Chinook kids up to play our course before the invitational," Havre head coach Keith Evenson said.
Sophomore Nick Obie led the Blue Ponies with a team-low 36 on the nine-hole course. Sophomore Jason Johnstone shot a 40, while classmate Kyle Sheppard fired a 41. No team scores were kept.
"I don't think they shot as well as they were capable of shooting," Evenson said. "The weather was perfect. The kids were not playing their game."
Senior Lucas Paugh led the Sugarbeeters with a 40, followed by Mike Kellam with a 43, and Tyler Oemcke, who fired a 47.
On the girls' side, senior Lisa Wagner fired a 51. Jessica Sande shot a 58, and Jenni Solomon shot a 60.
Jessica Kauffman, the lone Chinook girl, shot a 53.
The same day at the Chinook Golf Course, Havre JV, Malta, Chinook JV, and Rocky Boy played nine holes.
The Blue Pony boys led the way, placing in the top three spots.
