The Hill County Commissioners expressed their thanks for having the 2000 Convention of the Montana Association of County Road Supervisors (MACRS) in Havre.
"The convention held at the Holiday Village Mall was a huge success," said Jerry Otto, Hill County road supervisor and past MACRS president.
Commissioner Pat Conway opened the convention by welcoming everyone to Havre. Commissioners Kathy Bessette and Doug Kaercher also attended the opening, introductions, Montana Association of Counties (MACO) issues and the secondary road program.
More than 150 people attended the convention representing 39 counties along with 55 vendors that represented 32 different companies.
The road supervisors listened to several speakers. The issues discussed concerned the state Gas Tax Road Inventory, leadership training, new public assistance programs for counties (FEMA), secondary road program, employment practices, signing and speed limits. Lt. Gov. Judy Martz also gave an update on the secondary road program.
The meeting finished with 97 participants touring Havre Beneath the Streets. The Bullhook Botton Barbershop Chorus performed at the MACRS banquet Thursday night.
"We would like to thank everyone at this time for all the hard work put in for a successful convention. A special thanks to Tiffany Korb for pulling everything together at the Holiday Village Mall," Otto said. "The Hill County Commissioners want to express their thanks to MACRS for considering Havre as their convention site. The commissioners continually encourage as many activities as possible in this area."
The state meeting for commissioners (MACO) and the treasurers' state convention are scheduled for September of 2000 in Havre.
