ED NORENBERG: Obituary

RUDYARD Edward John Norenberg, 72, Rudyard, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at a Chester hospital of cancer.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rudyard.

Norenberg was born in Havre Dec. 26, 1927 at Havre to Edward and Alma (Voss) Norenberg. He grew up at Hingham and graduated from Hingham High School in 1946. He farmed with his folks northwest of Hingham.

Norenberg married Kathryn "Kay" VanWechel at Rudyard on Nov. 21, 1954. They farmed in the Hingham community and eventually took over the Jake VanWechel farm 12 miles north of Rudyard. They built a new home at the farm in 1977 and retired and leased out their farming operations in 1987. They continued to live on the farm.

Norenberg was confirmed at the Lutheran parish in Hingham and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rudyard. A longtime member of the Hi-Line Antique Car Club, he was proud of his 1955 Cadillac. He also was a 50-year member of the Havre Eagles Club.

Norenberg enjoyed collecting coins and vegetable gardening, country music and dancing, and quiet time at home reading westerns and watching old western movies and game shows on TV. Norenberg enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage with his wife, and cooking. In his youth he enjoyed big game hunting and more recently he looked forward to ice fishing.

Norenberg was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Norenberg; and four sisters, Verda Alex, Vera Rambo, Dorothy Jones and Louise Blake.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Norenberg of Rudyard; two daughters, Tonya Merryman of Belt and Cathy Norenberg of Great Falls; two sisters, Marlene Hanson and June Richter, both of Havre; mother-in-law, Gert VanWechel of Rudyard; five grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be given to the Gift of Life in Great Falls or the Hi-Line Health Foundation in Chester.

Cremation and arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
