The defending State Class C champion KG KouGar boys' track team tallied points in every event en route to their 324-point District 9C track title.
"It was exciting," KG head track coach Paul Anderson said. "It was amazing they scored quite a few points. The most important thing is we moved a bunch of kids on to divisionals."
Eighteen kids to be exact.
Eric Marshall placed first in the 100 and 200 meters. He set a new meet record in the 100 with a time of 11.1. The former record was 11.30 set in 1985 by Chris Kline of Blue Sky and James Al of KG.
The KouGars dominated the 100, placing five athletes in the top six in the race. Only Blue Sky's Jeromy O'Neil broke up the KouGar pack with a third-place finish.
Marshall won the 200 with a time of 23.7, while teammate Justin Simonsen placed second with a time of 24.7. Again, the KouGars placed four runners in the top six.
Blue Sky's O'Neil was third with a time of 25.6 and teammate Mitchell McKinley was sixth with a time of 26.7.
Justin Antonich set a new district record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.1. Mat Seidensticker of KG held the former record of 15.6 set in 1992.
Antonich placed first in the javelin with a toss of 176-5 and second in the 100 with a time of 11.7.
Joey Stuart broke a district meet record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.3. Kevin Ford of KG set the former record of 42.1 in 1993.
Stuart placed first in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet seven inches. He won the triple jump with a leap of 41-9 3/4.
Aaron Smith set a new meet record of 4:36.2 in the 1,600 meters for his first-place finish. The old record, set by Travis Stehman of KG, was 4:36.7, set in 1998.
Smith also won the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:52.6.
Roger Larson won the 400 meters with a time of 54.1, while Eric Hanson placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.6 and he placed second in the 1,600.
Tel Sterner won the discus with a toss of 132-10. Jared Miller won the high jump with a personal-best six feet one inch.
The KouGar boys' relay teams swept the field, setting a new meet record in the 400-meter relay at 46.10.
KG did not place first in just two events pole vault and shot put.
Big Sandy's Mace Mangold set a a new meet record in the pole vault with a leap of 13-6. Shawn Rettig of Big Sandy held the former record of 12-4, set in 1988.
Blue Sky's Matt Johnson won the shot put with a toss of 43-1. He paced the Eagles, who placed second at the meet with 97 points.
Big Sandy was third with 71 points and Turner was a distant fourth with 11 points. Rocky Boy finished the day with nine points.
"We are not specialists in any one event, but we are very deep," Anderson said.
On the girls' side, the Big Sandy Pioneers notched points in all but two events with a 192-point team title.
Jenny Silvan placed first in the 100 hurdles (16.7), 300 hurdles (48.7), and the pole vault (8-6) to help the Pioneers.
Kristi Upham placed first in the 200 meters with a time of 28.0 and the high jump at 4 feet 10 inches.
Eryn Darlington placed first in the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:28.3. She also placed first in the shot put with a toss of 28-11 1/2.
Lindsey Danreuther won the 400 with a time of 65.3. Sheena Darlington won the 1,600 with a time of 5:49.1.
Blue Sky finished second at the meet with 142 points and KG was third with 100.
Box Elder had 40, Turner eight, and Rocky Boy five points.
Blue Sky's Caryle Reddig placed first in the 100 with a personal-best time of 13.5. She won the long jump with a leap of 15-7 3/4 and the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 32-10.
Teammate Cassidy Han won the 3,200 with a time of 15:02.2.
Box Elder's Tami Infante won the discus with a throw of 91-4.
KG's Kim Berg did well at the meet, setting a meet record in the javelin with a toss of 116-11 1/2. She placed second in the both the long and triple jump and the high jump.
"She had a real nice day," Anderson said.
Kristin Preeshl and Marissa Hanson also collected some big points for the KouGar girls, who advanced eight girls to the divisional meet.
The Northern Divisional is slated to be held at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls on Thursday.
