Turner, Box Elder, and the Rocky Boy High School track teams are focusing on the up-coming Northern Divisional track meet on Thursday.
Robert Van Voast led the Turner boys' team by qualifying in two events the 3,200 with a time of 11:02.90 (4th) and the 1,600 where he earned third place with a time of 5:01.60. Andrew Jones also found his way to state in the 800 with a time of 2:24.60 (6th). For the women, Melissa Grabofsky and Mandy Baldik both qualified in the same two events, the 1,600 and the 800. Grabofsky ran into a sixth-place finish with a time of 7:40 in the 1,600, while Baldik out-did her teammate with a time of 7:39.9 and a fifth place finish.
In the 800, the roles reversed as Grabofsky took the fifth-place prize just ahead of Baldik with a time of 3:02. Also qualifying for Turner was Nadine Schlueter with a throw of 81-6 and a fifth-place finish.
The Box Elder Bears qualified two girls for the state in six events. Tami Infante led the Bears, who advanced in the 100 with a time of 13.90 (3rd), 200 (29.30, 3rd), long jump with a distance of 15-3, and the discus where she took home the title with a throw of 91-4.
Josephine Windyboy will join her, qualifying in two events the 1,600 with a time of 6:47.9, good enough for third place, and the 3,200 with a time of 16:06.8 and a third-place finish.
Rocky Boy will send three tracksters to state. Dustin Sunchild was able to advance in two events the discus with a throw of 106-4 and a fifth-place finish, and the shot put, where he shot himself into third place with a 40 foot throw. Also qualifying in the shot put was brother Darrell Sunchild with a throw of 38-10.
Jolin Demontiney qualified in two events javelin and discus. In the javelin she threw a respectable 75-4 1/2, enough for sixth place. In the discus, Demontiney was able to come up with a fourth-place finish with a distance of 84-3.
The state meet will be Thursday at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls.
