Kali Wicks fought through sickness and doubled with Devan Lalum to go 2-for-2 at the State Class B/C tennis tournament last Saturday for the Chester Coyotes.
"She played through it and ended up doing pretty well," Chester head coach Dustin Gordon said.
The two seniors opened the tournament and snatched a set from Jan Diedrich and Teri Bouray of Fairfield, but eventually lost, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Chester duo went on to defeat Smith and Snow of Troy, 5-7, 6-0, 6-4. In the third round, they defeated teammates Kendra Matkin and Mari Tempel, 6-3, 6-2.
The Lalum/Wicks team was edged from the tournament by Hepperia and Prouix of Baker, 6-3, 4-6 (7-6).
"They played really well and that third set tiebreaker could have gone either way," Gordon said.
Matkin and Tempel opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Forsyth's Nilsan and Johnston. They lost to Garnett and Bruce of Conrad 7-5, 7-5 in the second round.
The Matkin/Tempel team defeated Burley and Kirschner, 6-2, 7-5, before being knocked from the tournament by their teammates.
The Coyotes finished with eight points at the tournament.
In singles play, Teresa Muncy opened with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Forsyth's Ruby Chunkaeum.
Muncy was defeated by Virginia Johnson of Boulder, 6-0, 6-0. Lynda Srihabud knocked Muncy from the tournament with a 6-4, 7-6 decision.
Lisa Wickum, the other Chester singles' player, lost two straight, falling to Windy Boltz of Troy, 6-3, 6-2, and falling to Ginger Hoppert, 0-6, 6-4 (7-6).
