The MSU-Northern Lights mens' basketball team has signed Derek Renee to a national letter of intent to play next winter, announced Lights Head Coach Tim Walker.

"He is a very, very hard worker," Walker said. "He's got a tremendous work ethic and he's an excellent competitor."

Renee, a 1999 graduate of Billings Senior High School, averaged 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game under Coach Pat O'Connor at Billings.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Renee played for one year at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Mass. He averaged 10 points, six assists, and six steals at the prep school.

"He will bring a tough mindedness that will really benefit us," Walker said.

Renee's quickness and ball handling skills will bring some dimension to the frontcourt of the Lights' program.

"He will be a great fit into our system," Walker said.
