The Havre Comets kicked off the Baseball Jamboree Thursday afternoon against the visiting Scobey Blues.
The Comets put the first run up in the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning when Mike Kellam sacrificed a hit for Dusty Heath, who reached base by receiving a walk.
In the fifth inning, the Comets struck again with a sacrifice by Eric Lipp, bringing home Kyle Lammerding to give the Comets a 2-0 lead at the completion of five innings.
Havre bats were not done yet as Lammerding drove in Mike Mereness and Kevin Jurenka, who both reached base via a free pass given out by Blues pitcher Corey Cramwell. Lammerding was rewarded when Ben Mader doubled to bring him home to give the Comets a five-run lead.
On the defensive side of things, pitcher Mike Kellam, who was awarded game MVP, struck out three batters and allowed only four Blues' hits and one run during seven innings. The fielding team turned two stellar infield double plays.
The Comets will be in doubleheader action Wed., June 14 in Malta.
