MYRON BAKKEN
Myron "Mike" A. Bakken, 84, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 at a Havre hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Dorthy Nielsen officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at the Eagles Lodge in Havre follow the service. Respects may be made at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home until 5 p.m. Monday.
Bakken was born April 3, 1916 in Kenmare, N.D. to Theodore and Margrethe K. Bakken. He graduated eighth grade in Kenmare.
In 1936, Bakken worked at the Fort Peck Dam. In 1938, he married Irene Leota Mahlum in Minot, N.D.
The couple moved to Glasgow in 1942 to take employment as a guard at the Glasgow Airbase. In 1943, he hired on at the Great Northern Railroad as a fireman. He was promoted to engineer in 1950. In 1952, he was selected to be a crewman on President Harry S. Truman's Presidential Train from Williston, N.D. to Glasgow.
The family moved to Havre in 1972 and he retired in 1976.
Bakken was a member of Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge, and a life member of the Elks Lodge and the National Rifle Association.
Bakken was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Havre; daughters, Dorothy Cook of Big Fork, and Marge Ickes of Billings; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Eagles Manor in Havre.
