Jean L. (Turner) Peterson, 76, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at a Havre nursing home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Holland & Bonine Chapel in Havre with Pastor Kenn Green officiating. Burial to follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Peterson was born Sept. 16, 1924 at Clifton Forge, Va. to Oscar and Virginia (Hayslett) Lyle. She attended school at Clifton Forge.

She started her nursing training in Browning in 1944.

She returned to Virginia and nursed there until 1963. She also attended the St. Luke's Hospital Training for Nursing for three years and graduated on June 11, 1945 as a registered nurse.

On Dec. 20, 1965, she married Lowell Peterson in Havre. She was a registered nurse at Harlem until 1966 and then worked at both of the Havre hospitals for some time. She returned to Harlem, then the Crow Agency.

After leaving Crow Agency, she returned to Havre and worked at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd and then at Rocky Boy's Reservation.

She retired in 1990.

Peterson was a member of the Northern Montana Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers for many years. She also was a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, her husband, and one stepson, Dave Peterson.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Welchert of Lincoln, Neb.; stepdaughter, Shirley Webb of Seattle; sons, Bob Turner of Havre and Ron Turner of White Sulphur Springs; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
