INVERNESS Elmer James Jensen, 76, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at a Chester hospital where he was being treated for diabetes and heart problems.
Vigil prayer services will be 7 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Inverness. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Cemetery in Havre.
Jensen was born Oct. 5, 1923 to Jens Jensen and Katherine "Katie" Zeltinger at the family homestead south of Joplin. He received his formal education at Inverness, then began working the family farm and eventually took over the family operations. He worked and lived south of Joplin his entire life.
n 1996, Jensen leased out his farm and moved to the personal care wing of the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester.
Jensen was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Inverness and was active in the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and helped with various remodeling jobs over the years.
Jensen enjoyed being a farmer and the simple things in life. He attended rodeos and fairs and was fond of country western music. He also enjoyed fishing and watching television and was an avid fan of professional wrestling.
Jensen never married and maintained a close relationship with his siblings and their children and spent holidays with them when he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Art Jensen and Ernest Jensen, and two sisters, Helen Adams and Pearl Schweitzer.
Survivors include his sister, Irene McCann of Osburn, Idaho, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester.
