For the first during Coach David Ray's tenure at Montana State University-Northern, his wrestling squad did not lose to the alumni. They did not win either; they wrestled to a tie at 22 apiece.
More than 300 spectators in the MSU-Northern gym had a fun filled wrestling afternoon. It was a relaxed atmosphere, but became all business when they players stepped onto the mat.
"It was a lot of fun, we lost a couple of matches where I felt we could have defeated the alumni, then again we won some I did not think we could win this early in the season," coach Ray said.
The alumni had 14 returning all-americans compared to the Light's four. With this in mind, a tie is a great accomplishment. Each team won six matches and there were two ties.
The Lights squad will face the University of Calgary next. These two squads can be seen facing each other on Oct 21 at 7 p.m. in the MSU-Northern gymnasium.
"We will see if the team is as good as the show they put on against the alumni when they face the University of Calgary on October 21," coach Ray said, "Until then, we have two weeks to work on our weaknesses."
