Winners of Football Grid Giveaway announced

While bad weather prevented the Osprey Club from jumping onto Blue Pony Stadium on Oct. 30, the Chamber Ambassadors Football Grid Giveaway was still held, and the winners have been announced.

Mary Ann McLean won the first prize, $1,000. Linda Sterner won $350 for second, Charlys Doucette won $200 for third, Mike Hanson won $150 for fourth, and Theresa Larson won the bonus prize of $100.

The event took place during halftime at the Montana State University-Northern Lights and the Rocky Mountain College Bears football game.

The playing field was divided into 5,300 one-square-yard sections, and a computer program was used to randomly assign a section to each ticket sold. The Osprey Diving Club was scheduled to have four members jump onto the field to select the winning sections, but the Ambassadors had to change plans.

Four people carried colored washers with ribbons on them to different sections of the field, then tossed the washers up "in the 40 mile-per-hour wind," Ambassador Kim Cripps said. The washers substituted for the sky divers, selecting the first- through fourth-place winners. The bonus winner was selected randomly by a computer program.

This is the fourth year of the giveaway, usually held during the Havre High School Homecoming game during Havre Festival Days. Cripps said in a previous interview that organizers might alternate the giveaway between Havre Blue Pony games and Montana State University-Northern games, although no decision had been made at that time.

The Havre High Homecoming game was not held during Festival Days this year due to state football scheduling.
