Daniel E. Bates, D.D.S., opened a new dental office at 130 13th Street in the Northern Montana Medical Arts Center on Monday.
Bates, who was born and raised in a small farming town in northeastern Ohio, said he opened the family dental practice in Havre because he and his wife, Kimberley, "fell in love with the West" while he was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo., during his "last hitch in the military."
He said they made a few trips to Montana while he was stationed there, and when he was ready to open his own practice they looked for a small town in Montana that needed a dentist, and Havre fit the description.
ates said they wanted to move their family to a place with a high quality of life. He said people in a small town tend to be friendlier. He and his wife have three children, 9-year-old Adrian, 5-year-old Allie and 6-month-old Madeline.
"We're happy to be here," Bates said; "we have fallen in love withthe town and the people, and plan on being here for a long time."
Bates, a 1999 graduate of Ohio State University, said he spent the last year working with his father-in-law in San Jose, Calif., "basically picking his brain, letting him mentor me."
