Pow-Wow masquerade

By Tim Leeds

The committee for the 2001 Annual Rocky Boy Pow-Wow is holding a masquerade party at the Rocky Boy Elementary School gymnasium Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at 7 p.m.

Dorene Tendoy, who is helping to set up the masquerade party, said they will have cash prizes for costumes, in adult and children's categories, with possible subdivisions in those categories. She said they will have concessions, cake walks and more for entertainment. She said they might even have some Rocky Boy Council candidates and other local politicians doing some benefit work for the Pow-Wow. Tendoy said there could be some pie-in-the face events and such other entertainment, although she said the events weren't final yet.

Tendoy said, in an effort to increase family unity, no children will be allowed at the event without an adult. She said they want to increase parent involvement in children's activities, and this is a step in that direction.

Tendoy said all are welcome to attend the masquerade, which was organized as a fund-raiser for the 2001 Annual Pow-Wow. She said they have already held fund-raising activities, including bingo parties, and the process has just begun.

Tendoy said they hope to find a lot of support to help put on the internationally recognized powwow next fall.
