Members of the Havre VFW Auxiliary took part in some events that were national in scope last week.
Auxiliary members helped prepare for the Red Ribbon Week anti-drug activities. They prepared packets of the red ribbons at the Havre HELP office in the Masonic Temple to distribute to the students at the public schools. Five members worked for five hours to sort out the proper number of ribbons to deliver to each class of the elementary, middle and high schools., and another member donated 19 hours to help sort and deliver the packets.
"If you weren't wearing a red ribbon last week, you weren't in style," said Mildred Schneider, publicist for the auxiliary.
Schneider said helping prepare the Red Ribbon packets is an activity they have done for several years.
The auxiliary also donated time to the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen on Friday and Saturday as part of Make a Difference Day, which is sponsored by the Pizza Hut Book-It! and USA Week magazine to provide community service. Four auxiliary members worked the kitchen for nine hours on Friday and another four worked for nine hours on Saturday, Schneider said.
The auxiliary members helped prepare the food, including making sandwiches and cleaning vegetables, for distribution at the kitchen. Schneider said they donated their time to give the days off to the regular staff of the kitchen.
