KG students spend time reading at care center

By Tim Leeds

Students from KG Elementary School spent some time Friday reading to residents of the Northern Montana Care Center as part of Make a Difference Day.

Participating classrooms were to perform good deeds in their community on Saturday, Oct. 28, the official day for the event. There were 15 KG students, from kindergarten through third-grade, who went out a day early to spend time with the residents of the center. Classrooms were encouraged to do their good deeds anytime during the Book-It!® program, from Oct. 2 to Nov. 15.

The students brought their own books, some of them homemade, to read to the residents. They also brought donations for HRDC, including clothes, books and school supplies.

Make a Difference Day is part of the Book-It!® program, sponsored by Pizza Hut®. This is the eighth annual "National Day of Doing Good" in the program, sponsored by USA Weekend magazine in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation.

The Book-It!® program is designed to promote developing good reading skills. Students are given coupons from Pizza Hut for maintaining a minimum required reading schedule.
