Recent criminal actions in 12th Judicial District Court involved cruelty to animals, family assault, rape and driving offenses.
Matthew Michael Converse, 23, Havre, pleaded guilty Nov. 17 to partner assault and was given an 18-month deferred imposition of sentence. He also was sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for six days served. Converse was given the option of completing in-patient chemical dependency treatment in lieu of jail time. He also was ordered to pay a $500 fine, with the stipulation that the fine would be suspended if he completes treatment. The crime occurred July 14 at a residence Converse shared with his girlfriend in Havre.
Leonard J. Stanley, 37, Box Elder, pleaded guilty Nov. 27 to fourth offense driving under the influence of alcohol, a felony; driving without proof of liability insurance, and driving while his license to do so was suspended or revoked. The judge ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for 9 a.m. Jan. 4, 2000. The felony charge carries a fine of between $1,000 and $10,000 and a jail sentence of between 6 months and 13 months. Stanley's vehicle could be seized and disposed of according to law, and he could be ordered to pay $20 prosecution fee, $10, victims' fee and $5 surcharge plus attend and complete an alcohol information course.
Timothy Andrew Narayan Gamble, 22, Havre, pleaded guilty Nov. 16 to sexual contact without consent and sexual abuse of a child. The charges arose from Gamble's sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl and his video taping of the girl engaging in sexual conduct on June 27 in Havre. The judge ordered a presentence investigation and set sentencing for 9 a.m. Jan. 16, 2000. Gamble could be sentenced to between 4 and 100 years in prison and fined up to $50,000 plus a $20 prosecution fee, $10 victims' fee and $5 surcharge on each offense.
Troy Robert Hornblower, 37, Havre, pleaded guilty Nov. 27 to misdemeanor partner assault for beating his girlfriend about the head and neck on Aug. 7. He was given six months in jail with all but 72 hours suspended. He was ordered to pay $50 on his fine every two weeks until it's paid off.
Keith Warren Longhorn, 39, Norman, Okla., was sentenced Nov. 30 to seven years in prison with five years suspended. He was given credit for 204 days already served and ordered to enroll in Phase I sexual treatment program while in prison. The sentence arose from an sexual incident that Longhorn had with an 8-year-old girl in Havre in August 1992.
Donald V. LaMere, 30, Rocky Boy, pleaded guilty Dec. 1 to cruelty to animals. LaMere was charged with facilitating a dog fight in Box Elder on Aug. 17. He was given a 6-month deferred imposition of sentence and ordered to pay a $75 fine plus surcharges.
