Here it is once again. The last column of another year. It has been a year of good and bad for us. Lots of change. If whoever said that change is good, why then in the words of old timers, we must be having a runaway!
Anyhow, this is the time of year for some predictions and wishes for next year. Knowing most will not come true, still the fun is in dreaming of what if they or most of them did come true. Might make life better for all of us.
Regarding the Beaver Creek Park fence. We certainly wish and hope that the Park Board obtains a waiver from the State of Montana and no fence has to go anywhere near that beautiful and fragile place of beauty.
And we hope that still will not stop funding for off creek water holes so that cattle and recreationalists can practice some sort of segregation at least in the early fall.
But most of all we hope that stock growers and recreationalists would begin to understand the other's point of view for the simple facts are that the Park has always been a mecca for both area cattle and people having fun since before there were even fences fencing the Park at all. We need both sides really working hard to see each other's viewpoints. Essential in 2001!
We hope that next year there will be funds enough to build a few new campgrounds in Beaver Creek Park and (dare we say it) maybe close a few for a few years that are really getting "shop worn."
Well, gentle readers, enough of that serious stuff. Now, on to the real meat in this column.
We really hope that either Oakland or Denver wins the next Super Bowl. Further, we hope that the NFL stays just half as exciting next year as it was this year. Along with that we hope that on Monday Night Football Dennis Miller is quickly replaced with Rush Limbaugh, or at least someone who will talk football during broadcasts.
There is a new football league going on line just after the Super Bowl. It is run by a bunch of professional wrestlers we hear. NBC is going to broadcast their games. We hope they will be a great league to watch. Just think football fans, now we can double our football season.
We hope that sometime in our life, we will see some winnings from our fantasy football league. This year our team came in third and the folks who run the league are keeping our winnings in reserve just in case some year we lose big. Sound strange to you? Us too! Reminds us of some of the old time union bosses.
Most of all, we hope that you and yours can along with us and ours, continue to live in and prosper in this last best part of Big Sky Country, in the shadow of the Beautiful Bear Paw Mountains of Montana.
