Special Olympics seeking support

By Crystal Thompson

Kim Kirby, Great Northern Area manager for the Special Olympics, invites everyone to support the Special Olympics by visiting local retailers.

During the month of January, patrons of Gary and Leo's IGA, Albertson's and Big K can "inspire greatness" for the Special Olympics by purchasing Procter and Gamble products. For every Procter and Gamble product purchased, Special Olympics will receive 10 cents. In addition, Special Olympics will receive bonus dollars based on increased sales this month.

For only $1, you can become a "Champion of Greatness" when you purchase a Champions of Greatness medal. Each dollar raised will be donated to the Special Olympics here in Havre. Procter and Gamble will match these donations on behalf of IGA, Albertson's and Big K.

There are about 30 Special Olympics athletes in our area, Kirby said. The local games are held at the Havre Middle School during the end of April.

Area athletes participate in various fund-raisers throughout the year, including a silent auction, which raised $1,700 for local Special Olympics last year. Statewide, a Chevy truck raffle is currently taking place to raise money for Special Olympics athletes.
