Cure race quilt on display

By Crystal Thompson

A quilt donated to by the Bitterroot Quilters Guild and the Soroptimist International of Hamilton is on display at the JCPenney Catalog Office in Havre.

The quilt will be raffled off to raise money for the seventh annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure, which will take place on May 19 in Helena.

The Race for the Cure has become the largest series of 5K runs in the world. Races were held in 107 U.S. cities and two foreign countries last year. Proceeds from the race help fund important breast cancer research as well as breast health initiatives on a local level.

Raela Hulett, local team captain for the Race for the Cure, says that although the race is held in Helena, money raised locally benefits the Havre community. Many area runners participate in the statewide race. The Race for the Cure is about more than running, for many who participate it is an act of support, love, and commitment to someone who battled, or is currently battling breast cancer.
