BENJAMIN STROMBERG
Benjamin Carl Stromberg, Sr., 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at a Havre hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Havre, with Pastor Dorthy Nielsen officiating. Private family burial will follow at a later date.
Stromberg was born in Havre Nov. 3, 1921 to Orvile, Sr. and Lucille Stromberg.
He served in the Army during World War II with a tour in the European theater. After the war, he returned to Havre where he gained employment at the H. Earl Clack Grain Elevator. He was eventually promoted and served as general manager until his retirement in 1984.
Stromberg married Elaine Brower in 1949 in Havre.
He served on the Havre Police Commission and was president of the Havre High School Booster Club. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
During the past six months, Stromberg was actively working to develop a coalition to develop U.S. Highway 2 into an interstate highway.
When he wasn't spending time with his family, Stromberg was pursuing his passion of hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, in 1995, and son, Patrick Stromberg, in June 1998, and his brother, Orvile.
Survivors include his sons, Russ Stromberg of Kirkland, Wash., Ken Stromberg of Crookston, Minn., Ben Stromberg of Woodland Park, Colo., and Mike Stromberg of Grand Forks, N.D.; sister, Emma Marie Nelson of Havre; nephew, Howie Stromberg of Havre; niece Karan Evans of Havre; nine grandsons and one granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church youth group and Havre Lions Swim Team.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
