Skylights climb up standings with victory, Westminster loss

BUTTE Abby Hjorth and Lana Quintyne each scored 13 points

to lead a balanced attack for the Montana State

University-Northern women's basketball team in an 89-70 win

over Montana Tech Saturday.

The win, coupled with Carroll's 55-49 win over Westminster,

propelled 14th-ranked Northern (8-4, 21-6) into second place

in the Frontier Confererence with just two games remaining

in the regular season.

Westminster is third in the conference at 8-5, and Carroll

and Western Montana are both 7-5.

Northern finished just 30 of 82 from the floor, but the

Skylights' effort from the three-point arc was exemplary.

Anna Fabatz and Jennifer Young each made three 3-pointers

for Northern, which finished the game 10-for-22 from

three-point range.

Northern guard Davina Shoemake did a solid job controlling

the ball for her team, finishing with five assists. The

Skylights had just eight turnovers, compared to 15 for the

Orediggers.

Paula Owens scored 12 points and Jackie Rasnick and Fabatz

each added 11 for the Skylights.

Kayla Minehan tossed in 13 points for Montana Tech.
