All-star games often involve players and coaches more interested in having a good time than earning a victory.
A team consisting of volleyball standouts from Class A accomplished both Friday.
Led by Sage Dubois's 14 kills, Class A defeated the Class B All-Stars 15-7, 14-16, 15-12, 15-11 to finish the ABC All-Star volleyball tournament unbeaten at Northern Gym.
Class A also defeated Class C 15-13, 15-5, 15-4 in the tournament's first match, and Class B overcame a 2-games-to-1 deficit to beat Class C 9-15, 15-12, 12-15, 15-7, 15-13.
CLASS A 3, CLASS B 1 The two teams split the first two games before Class A jumped ahead 7-2 in the third to seemingly take control.
Class B's Rachel Lee served five straight points, however, to tie the game at 7-all.
Class B eventually inched ahead 12-10, but Carly Pickthorn served two points to knot the game again at 12-12.
Class A's Rosie Meyn had a kill and a block, and Dubois had two kills to give their team the game and a 2-1 lead overall.
Class A jumped ahead 7-0 in the final game, and after Class B cut the gap to 13-11, Pickthorn served two points to end the match.
Cortney Metzler led Class B with 15 kills, 14 blocks and 14 digs.
CLASS A 3, CLASS C 0 Lindsay Garcia, Marrin Audet, Andrea Donahue and Ammie Smith each had seven kills for Class A.
Mariah Albers had 10 kills for Class C.
CLASS B 3, CLASS C 2 Metzler had 10 kills, 13 blocks and 18 digs to help Class B offset the effort of Class C's Jacklynn Oliver, who finished with 22 kills and four aces.
