LEWISTON, Idaho The Lewis-Clark State College Invitational golf tournament was the site of a record-setting performance by the Montana State University-Northern golf team April 9-10 at Bryden Canyon Golf Course.
Paced by freshman Kaycee Link's 54-hole individual scoring record of 264, the Skylights finished the tournament third overall the highest-ever placing in the team's history.
En route to her final score, Link also set an 18-hole school record with an 82 in the tournament's final round. She placed sixth in individual scoring, the highest finish of any Skylight this year.
"You can't imagine how good that score is unless you see the course they played this week," Skylights coach Chris Handley said. "It is extremely hilly with very small, domed greens, and they had the ladies pushed back to 6,000 yards."
As a team, the Skylights set new records for 18-hole and 54-hole scores. The team totaled 377 strokes in the first round to set the new mark, but then broke that record with a 370 in the final round.
In individual play Shanda Lammerding finished 14th with a 276, including a first-round score of 88. Teammates Theresa Newman and Ristina Johnson finished at 294 and 299, respectively.
The event also marked the first time all four Northern golfers finished under 300.
"I am very proud of these ladies for being able to get it done this week without much time on the actual course this spring," Handley said.
Northern will next travel to the Westminster Invitational in Salt Lake City, set for April 23-24.
