CHESTER Elizabeth Rose "Beth" Green, 80, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at her home in Chester of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester. Burial will follow at the Chester Cemetery.
Green was born May 26, 1920 in rural Grass Valley, Ore. to Mary Kenny and Clarence Mersinger. She spent her early years on the Mersinger family farm.
The family moved to Moro, Ore. when she was old enough to go school. She went to school in Moro and graduated from high school there in 1938. In school, she was active in band, piano and all sports, and often filled in on the boys basketball team when there weren't enough boys for practice.
She attended business school in Portland for a short time and took a job at her aunt's general store, gas station and lunch counter in Lyle, Wash.
In October 1940, she met Charles E. Green and they were married in Moro on April 8, 1942. They moved to Montana and settled on the Green family ranch seven miles north of Chester.
They lived on the farm until 1999, when they bought a home in Chester. They spent the last four winters in Arizona.
Green was raised Methodist, but joined the Lutheran faith when the couple moved to the Chester area. She was a member of Our Savior's for more than 55 years, taught Sunday school and was Sunday school secretary for many years, was a church pianist, and was active in women's missionary fellowship and the Lydia Circle of WELCA.
She enjoyed Bible study, cutting and sewing squares for church quilting projects, and helping out with other church activities. She also helped 4-H youths with their sewing projects.
Among her hobbies were bird watching, crocheting and knitting, coin collecting, fishing, bowling, gardening, board games and cards, sports and going to local high school events.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Linden Mersinger.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Green of Chester; children, Ed Green of Davis, Calif., Shirley Weaver of Conifer, Colo., LeRoy Green of Chester and Lynnette Green of Ottumwa, Iowa; sister, Clara Mather of Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel, Chester.
