Havre's District IV Human Resources Development Council (HRDC) will host its quarterly Crisis Intervention Volunteer Trainings beginning April 24.
The trainings are designed for those who wish to volunteer for the Domestic Violence Program or to work on the Crisis Line. Roxanne Ross, director of the Domestic Violence Program at HRDC, said that the public is invited to attend any of the trainings to learn more about any of the subjects. The trainings will cover a wide variety of topics from a historical perspective of domestic abuse to the effect of domestic violence on children.
An introduction and overview of the program, including a tour of The Haven, the battered women's shelter in Havre, will kick off the trainings, which are scheduled to take place through May 10.
Ross said that once volunteers have satisfactorily completed the trainings, they are qualified to man the Crisis Line. However, she added, some have been unable to complete the training due to personal issues and difficulty handling certain situations. Ross, along with Tracie Pyette, Volunteer Coordinator for the Domestic Violence Program and Terry Hanson, director of the Family Partnership program at HRDC will present the majority of the trainings.
Ross said that there is generally anywhere from three to ten volunteers who participate in the trainings. For more information on becoming a volunteer or to find out dates and times for upcoming trainings contact Roxanne Ross or Tracie Pyette at 265-6743.
