A Taste of Jazz

By Tim Leeds

Havre High School students will perform selections in a "relaxed swing mood" in the 2001 "Taste of Jazz!" concert Monday, April 30, in the high school gymnasium starting at 7 p.m.

A press release from the Havre High School Music Parents Association, the sponsors of the concert, said the finest jazz ensembles and the multi-talented Hi-Liters and Belles Voix will perform at the concert.

The concert is being held in the gym to give the audience a choice of relaxing to the music, or getting up and dancing to the selections. Monday was selected because the weekends have so many other events scheduled to compete against, the release said.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards scholarships for Havre High music students interested in attending musical or theater camps over the summer.

The parents association provides financial help and assistance to both the band and the choir at the high school. They have provided money for new display cases at the school in the past, and recently helped provide food and lodging for more than 250 students for the Eastern A Choir Festival.

The release urges students interested in applying for the scholarships to pick up their applications as soon as possible.

Tickets for the 2001 "Taste of Jazz!" production sell for $5 each, $4 for senior citizens or $16 for a family ticket of four or more in the family. They will be available at the door, or in advance at Creative Leisure, Caveliers, Wooden Heart and at the high school office.
