Cinco de Mayo draws near. Are we ready?
I paid a short visit to Don's Pharmacy in Harlem a few Saturdays ago. For an hour, I listened and learned about Havre as it was in the 1930s and '40s.
Frank Orlando (he asked me not to mention his name), has been with Don Vaupel for 52 years. A Havre native, he was hired on by Don at his Havre store in 1948.
Mr. Orlando told me he would be unable to attend the Saturday, May 5, gathering at the Havre-Hill County Library to discuss Havre's past businesses. He did, however, provide me with a written list upon which he made numerous comments.
Here is that list with a few of the comments as I remember them. (If you have access to Mr. Orlando, try to get his to close up shop that Saturday. He is a most enjoyable man who has a strong abiding love of Havre and the Hi-Line.)
