April 23-27 is Student Excellence Week at Montana State University-Northern, and we at The Havre Daily News wish to offer our thanks and congratulations to all involved.
The week offers a variety of events and activities to the students at Northern, ending with the scholarships and awards given at the Student Excellence Convocation Friday. Rewarding the students with the Spring Games, the barbecue following the campus clean up Thursday, the concert Tuesday and the convocation and luncheon for scholarship and award winners is a good way to wrap up the year.
Rewarding the students for a year of hard work and putting on activities and displays is a good thing. Students need to be recognized and rewarded for their work, which will both justify the work they have done and encourage them, and others, to continue to strive for excellence.
It is also a justification for all at the campus. The purpose of the faculty, staff and administration, is, after all, to educate the students. Showing the support and appreciation for the students is also a reward for all who work at the institution.
Not all of the students will receive awards at Friday's convocation. But the week is for all of the students, from the art display in the SUB gallery to the free activities at the Pin-n-Cue, from the chance to participate in the Spring Games to the chance to help improve the campus during Thursday afternoons clean up.
The chance for the entire campus to work together and play together during the Excellence Week rewards and benefits everyone at the campus. It is a chance to strengthen the campus community as a team and to build morale on the campus.
We at The Havre Daily News applaud the work done to put the week together, and encourage all at Northern to participate fully in the celebration of themselves and their university.
