BIG SANDY Elgin Thomas McNeill, 90, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at a Big Sandy medical center of natural causes.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rohrer United Methodist Church in Big Sandy.

McNeill was born on the McNeill Ranch in the Bear Paws near Maddox to William and Nan (Gosney) McNeill on Jan. 31, 1911. He spent his entire life on the ranch and was educated at Reidel School.

As an adult, he continued his education through correspondence courses in electronics and television repair.

He married Dorothy Cooke on Dec. 29, 1934 and they made their home on their ranch 65 miles from Big Sandy.

McNeill was a member of the Rohrer United Methodist Church and an active member of the Big Sandy Senior Citizen Center. He held several offices with the senior center.

His hobbies included trapping, fishing, gopher reduction, playing cards, gardening and making picture frames. At 84, he started making stained glass.

McNeill was a big Big Sandy Pioneers basketball fan and attended all of the home games until the past couple of years when his health began to fail.

McNeill was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy McNeill, who died in 2000.

Survivors include his daughters, Dolly Pursley of Big Sandy and Gloria Sterrett of Havre; sons Dan McNeill of Chinook and Tom McNeill of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
