There were 17 Havre High School soloists and five ensembles that qualified to participate in the state solo and ensemble, May 4-5 in Missoula.
Musicians who received superior ratings in one or more event at the adjudicated District 7 Music Festival, held in Cut Bank on April 21, qualify for the state festival.
Soloists from Havre qualifying for the state festival included Joel Benson in trumpet, Kelly Lamb in alto saxophone, Matt Welch in piano and euphonium, Gwen Porter in euphonium, Casey Arensmeyer in tuba, Jen Beckstead in tuba and French horn, David Chambers in horn, Matt Kuka in trombone, Carrie Flatau in timpani and piano, Chelsie Yeats in clarinet, Alicia Rundquist in piano and flute, Erika Larson in flute, Jen Shakel in flute, Colby Smith in alto saxophone, Travis Solberg in snare drum and Will Thackeray in trombone.
Ensembles qualifying were the Brassamajiggy brass sextet, the Shakel-Larson flute duet, Jazz Band, the Knickerbocker-Williams saxophone duet, and the Franson, Sawyer and Toth trumpet performance.
