Havre donors step up to beds

A Red Cross blood drawing was held in Havre yesterday at the Van Orsdel Methodist Church on Fifth Avenue.

Alta LeDoux, local Red Cross volunteer, said that her supervisor called her this morning to congratulate her on a successful Havre drawing.

"Our goal is 110 (donors), and we had 132," LeDoux said.

Of the 132 potential donors, 124 were successful, which still exceeded Havre's goal, LeDoux said. She said that blood supplies have been low in the region lately, and the Havre drawing did a good job of boosting the supply.

LeDoux recently attended a Red Cross conference in Helena, where the group heard from several blood donor recipients. LeDoux said that there was a young boy at the conference who had been born with cancer, and thanks to donated blood, is now a healthy three-year-old, "It makes me wonder why doesn't everybody donate blood?'"

LeDoux said that Havre's drawing included five first time donors, three of which were Havre Jaycees who were working in the kitchen at the drawing. She said that a big thanks is in order for all who donated.

"I just feel so good about it," LeDoux said.

The next local Red Cross blood drawing is set to take place on July 9 at the Van Orsdel Methodist Church. Any service organization interested in working the canteen for September or November drawings are encouraged to call Alta LeDoux at 265-1486.
