MABEL HAWLEY, Obituary

HAYS Mabel Lucille Doney Hawley, 70, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at a Billings medical center of natural causes.

Rosary and wake were Thursday night at St. Paul's Mission Recreational Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Mission Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mission Cemetery.

Hawley was born Dec. 8, 1930 in Lewistown to Joe H. and Julia (Gardipee) Doney. She moved to Hays when she was 2 and lived there most of her life. She also lived in Great Falls and then Stockett for a short time.

She married Granville Hawley on May 22, 1954 in Hays. She received her teaching certificate in the 1970s and served as a foster grandmother at the Hays Head Start.

Hawley enjoyed working with children, singing, dancing and had a great love for fiddle music. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and with her family and visiting with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Doney and Eugene "Happy" Doney; sisters, Marie Morin and Florence Sayers, and twin brothers who died in infancy.

Survivors include her husband, Granville Hawley, Sr. of Hays; children, Faith McCain of Idaho, Clayton Hawley, Sanford Hawley and Keith Hawley, all of Hays, Morgan Hawley, Sr. of Great Falls, Chester Hawley and Claudine Counts, both of North Dakota; granddaughters raised as daughters, Angel Hawley and Colleen "Sissy" Fox, both of Hays; sisters, Bernice Mount and Margaret Morin; brothers, Lindy Doney all of Hays; 34 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
