Filius named coach of year

Blue Ponies coach honored by MCA

Havre's Scott Filius was named the Montana Coaches Association Class A wrestling coach of the year in the aftermath of the Blue Ponies romping to a state championship this past season.

Filius will be presented the award at the MCA awards ceremony slated for noon on Aug. 2 in Great Falls at the C.M. Russell High School auditorium. A luncheon will follow, and the event is open to the public.

The ceremony will coincide with the MCA Clinic set for Aug. 1-3 at C.M. Russell.

Filius is a former four-time All-American and was an NAIA national champion at 167 pounds.

Joining Filius as wrestling honorees were Billings Skyview's David Maier and Glasgow's Mark Johnston.

Volleyball honorees include Flathead's Maureen Boyle, Whitefish's Jackie Fuller, Roundup's Laurie Kelly and Harlowton's Carla Schwend.

C.M. Russell's Mike McLean, Browning's Ray Augere, Three Forks's Mike Sauvageau and Heart Butte's Grinnell Day Chief were all named boys basketball coaches of the year in their respective classes.
