The Salvation Army Daycamp starts its season June 11, running through Aug. 17.
The camp provides entertaining and educational opportunities for children ages 6-12. There are arts and craft activities, field trips and morality lessons done each day, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Counselors provide supervision for the children at the camp, who are approved by the family services before they start working. The premises are also inspected by the Hill County sanitarian and the fire marshal before the camp begins.
People registering their children for the camp are asked to select which weeks they will attend, but weekly openings are sometimes available to bring children in after the season has started.
The camp uses local resources for the activities, including city, state and federal parks and facilities. The stated goal is to provide children a fun-filled, healthy, educational and inspirational break from every day summer life.
The activities at the camp are intended to stress cooperation, compassion and respect for people, their property and unique personalities.
The cost for the camp is $45 a week for one child, $60 for two, $70 for three, $85 for four and $90 a week for more than four children. Scholarships are available for families experiencing financial hardship. The payment for each week must be made on the Monday of the week attending. Children under 6-years-old can be admitted to the camp, under special circumstances.
