Chauncey E. Steinmetz, 55, and his wife, Georgiann Steinmetz, 53, died Sunday, June 17, 2001 of injuries received in a motorcycle accident south of Chinook.
Creamation has taken place. A joint memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church with Pastor Rowlie Hutton officiating. A time of fellowship will follow at the church. There will be a private family interment.
A tree will be planted at MSU-Northern in their honor.
Georgiann Steinmetz was born March 3, 1948 in Havre to Ray Elwood and Eleanor Ina (Thompson) Brown. She was raised in Chinook, attended elementary school there and graduated from Chinook High School.
Chauncey Steinmetz was born June 17, 1946 in Havre to Adolph and Minnie (Donis) Steinmetz. He was raised on the family farm in Zurich and attended elementary school there and high school in Chinook.
He enlisted in the Army National Guard on April 14, 1965 and worked as a cook. He was honorably discharged Aug. 30, 1970 as a Pvt E2.
The couple was married July 3, 1966 in Chinook. They made their home in Zurich and he worked for his father on the farm.
Chauncey went to work for the railroad in 1967 and they moved to Havre. Georgiann began working at Western Drug in 1985.
The Steinmetzes enjoyed playing darts, attending car shows, and motorcycle riding. She also enjoyed baking cakes and he liked woodworking, tinkering in his shop and fishing.
Georgiann Steinmetz was preceded in death by her father. Chauncey Steinmetz was preceded in death by his parents.
She is survived by her mother, Eleanor Brown of Havre; sisters, Vivian Sawyer and Joyce Taylor, both of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Ronald Ray Brown of Coos Bay, Ore.
He is survived by his sisters, Glenna Ammen of Turner, Rosella Higgins of Zurich, and Betty DeZort of Great Falls; brothers, Adolph Steinmetz Jr. of Butte and Irvin Steinmetz of Great Falls.
Together they are survived by their daughters, Tanya Palmer and Stacy Lanier, both of Havre; five grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.
