Sexual assault suspect Charles Nottingham was arrested today in Casper, Wyo., Havre police said.
Havre Assistant Police Chief Mark Stolen said this afternoon that Nottingham was taken into custoday without incident. Stolen did not yet have details about the exact location of the arrest.
He said police had circulated e-mail photographs of Nottingham and learned where he was.
Nottingham was charged with sexual assault on June 14 after a report of child molestation was made to the Department of Public Health and Human Services.
Nottingham subsequently violated conditions of his release from jail by leaving the area in late June. According to court reports, Nottingham's vehicle was found on a Billings street on June 23. The vehicle contained a note indicating Nottingham was going to harm himself and his accusers.
In an e-mail Monday to the Havre Daily News and several other Montana newspapers, Nottingham likened his fleeing to that of "refugees fleeing a war zone."
He wrote, "I'm absenting myself from a bizarre, dangerously untenable environment fostered by well-intentioned laws designed to help battered spouses, but which also spawn a particularly virulent faction of militants encourage (sic) abuses of those laws. In that respect, Havre has it.' "
Nottingham accused police departments and human resource agencies of unfairly enforcing spouse abuse complaints in an effort to generate more money. He wrote that these agencies "receive huge federal and private grants if they enforce every complaint."
He said the next installment would be called "The Underground Railroad to Escape Feminazis."
