Village power outage disrupts Internet access

A power outage at the Holiday Village Shopping Center today disrupted Internet service for some customers of Stellar Computer Consulting.

David Shaw, president and owner of Stellar, said the outage had different effects on the 1,700 to 1,800 Internet access accounts the company manages. After the outage started, people couldn't log on to the Internet, but people already logged on were not affected at first. People logged on in Havre were not affected until nearly the end of the two-hour outage, when their connection was lost. Shaw said customers outside of Havre who were already logged on did not lose their connections at all.

Shaw said power to some of the company's systems at the Holiday Village location lasted nearly the entire two hours, while power to others didn't. He said he is reconfiguring the systems to optimize the power and backup.

"Hopefully, the next time we can handle it the whole two hours," he said.

Tiffany Korb, manager of the Holiday Village, said a blown fuse on a transformer disrupted the power at the shopping center. She said Montana Power Co. technicians were able to replace the fuse in time for Holiday Village to open on schedule.

"It worked out perfectly," she said. The outage was discovered by Holiday Village maintenance employees about 7:45 a.m. and was back on by about 10 a.m.
