Basketball, Saturday Market this weekend

Three seems to be the magic number this weekend, as Havre hosts a triad of exciting activities.

Crazy Days, Saturday Market and the Nothing But Net 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament are scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The third annual 3-on-3 tournament is for all upcoming third- through 12th-graders. Prizes will be awarded to teams that place in the tournament and for the 3-point, free throw and slam dunk contest winners.

Havre Area Chamber of Commerce director Debbie Vandeberg said about two-thirds of a projected 50 teams have signed up for the tournament so far. She said the Chamber received 12 registration forms Tuesday. The deadline to sign up is Thursday.

All teams are guaranteed to play at least three games at the tournament and all contestants get T-shirts. Complimentary lunch will be provided by the Taco John's taco cart, and concessions will be available. The Super 8 Motel and TownHouse Inns of Havre are offering special rates for participating teams. Vandeberg said the city pool is also offering a special for participants who want to cool off after the tournament.

To register for the tournament, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 265-4383. For more information, contact Mellisa Jamieson at 378-3288 or Bobby Evans at 265-4712. Registration for all teams begins at 8 a.m. at the Atrium.

In addition to the 3-on-3 tournament, this weekend marks the beginning of Havre's Saturday Market. For the next nine weeks, vendors of all varieties will be on hand Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Market vendors offer items for many tastes, including garden products, antiques, crafts, flowers and baked goods. Saturday Market will conclude on Festival Days weekend, Sept. 15.

Because of this weekend's tournament, market vendors will set up on the east side of the Bear Paw Credit Union parking lot. The remaining Saturday Markets will take place on Second Street between Second and Third avenues.

Citywide merchants will participate in this weekend's activities with Crazy Days. Across town, various merchants will offer specials, discounts and sidewalk sales.

"It's going to be a three-ring circus this weekend," Vandeberg said.
