C. Martha Mayer, 82, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at a Havre hospital of natural causes.
A rosary service will be 7 p.m. today at the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Holland and Bonine Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Robert D. Grosch officiating. A com-
mittal service will follow at the Calvary section of the Hill County Cemetery in Havre. A time of fellowship will follow the committal service at the Knights of Columbus Hall of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Mayer was born Nov. 11, 1918, to William and Pearl (Bickford) Speyer in Rudyard. She attended country school in Inverness.
She married Francis Anthony "Buzz" Mayer on Oct. 26, 1935, in Havre. They settled in Havre until 1943 when he was transferred to Malta with the railroad. They returned to Havre in 1944.
Mayer was a clerk for F.W. Woolworth's "when you could get something for a nickel or a dime and it was worth something" and a bookkeeper for H&R Block. After leaving H&R Block, she did tax preparation for selected friends.
Her hobbies included gardening, especially tomatoes and flowers, reading, sewing, arts and crafts, crocheting, fishing, playing cards, bird watching and feeding wild birds in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Speyer; husband, "Buzz" Mayer; children, infant twins; brothers, Hank, Mike and John Speyer; sister, Mary Hary; grandsons, William "Willie" Burchett, Patrick "Pat" Wilson, and Tony Wilson.
Survivors include her sisters, Peggy Workman of Eureka and Minnie Dunn of Kalispell; Frank "Squeak" Speyer and Gordon "Curley" Speyer; daughters, Joyce Kimball of Greenville, Ill., Janet Geiser of Lufkin, Texas, Jean Wilson of Malvern, Ariz., Marilyn Kase of Tucson, Ariz., and Carolyn Mayer and Pat Jurenka, both of Havre; son, Francis "Butch" Mayer of Whitewater; 17 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
