GILDFORD The undefeated Big Sandy girls basketball team traveled to KG Friday, hoping to be able to enter the tournament with that same perfect record.
Thanks to great shooting and well-played defense, the Lady Pioneers were able to accomplish that goal, easily defeating the KouGars 91-36.
The Pioneers scored early and often, cruising to a 27-6 lead after the first quarter. Big Sandy increased its lead to 47-20 at the half.
Katherine Bitz and Lindsey Danreuther each scored seven points in the first quarter, followed by Amy Silvan with six. Danreuther added seven more points in the second quarter, en route to her game-high 20 points.
The Pioneers made 11 three-point shots on the game, nearly enough to beat KG without any other scoring.
Aside from Danreuther, three other Big Sandy players scored in double figures Ashley Goodian with 19, Bitz with 18 and Silvan with 15.
Sealing the huge 55-point win, the Pioneers scored 30 points in the third quarter, while KG only scored nine.
Leading scorers for KG were Brooke Letang with 10 points, Cady Arifin added nine and Abbie Toner eight.

RUDYARD The Blue Sky Eagles used a huge 23-point second quarter to pull away from the Rocky Boy Stars Friday night and earn a 72-40 victory in Rudyard.
The game, which was near even after the first quarter with the score 15-12 in favor of the Eagles, got away from Rocky Boy in the second quarter as the Stars only scored four points in the quarter, giving Blue Sky a 38-16 half-time lead. Shana St. Pierre scored all of Rocky Boy's second-quarter points.
Cassidy Han led all scorers with 24 points for the Eagles, followed by Jessica Patrick with 14 and Lindsay Anderson with 12.
Allie Sunchild scored 13 points for Rocky Boy, followed by St. Pierre with 12.
