The Montana State University-Northern Skylights women's basketball team was looking for some community service projects to do just before the school year began.
The Skylights came up with the idea of collecting donations for the Brian Fanning Memorial Lighting Fund, which began last year to raise money to place lights on the American Legion Baseball Field. They called it "Skylights for Lights" and the Skylights went door to door to businesses and friends around Havre in late August and solicited donations for the fund unbeknownst to the Legion Baseball Parents' Group which has been fund-raising for more than a year.
The Brian Fanning Memorial Lighting Fund was presented with $650 from the Skylights this past month, which is expected to go a long way in helping make the yearly payments. The American Legion Parents' Group said it is very appreciative of the effort the Skylights put forth to support baseball in Havre.
The total cost of the new lights, which were put in place in April in memory of Brian Fanning, was $92,000.
Thanks to the generosity and support of the Havre community and friends of baseball in Havre and surrounding states, the Legion Baseball Parents' Group has been able to pay more than $70,000 of the loan off already.
