BIG SANDY Georg Johansson, 94, a former carpenter and farm laborer, died of natural causes Friday at a Havre hospital.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church in Big Sandy, with burial in Big Sandy Cemetery.
Georg was born Sept. 16, 1907, in Ssfsns, Sweden. He grew up there, served in the Swedish military and worked as a carpenter. In 1959, he came to the United States to help a family member on his farm in the Big Sandy area. He married Ethel Monson on July 20, 1960, and worked on her farm until retiring in 1976. Georg helped to start the building for the Big Sandy Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, woodworking and jigsaw puzzles. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Big Sandy Senior Citizens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (Monson) Johansson, who died in 1998.
Survivors include his nieces, Patty Reichelt of Big Sandy and Connie Simpson of Lakeland, Minn.; brother-in-law, Walter Monson, and sister-in-law, Darlene Monson, both of Big Sandy.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Big Sandy Senior Citizens, or the Big Sandy Medical Center.
