HHS speech and debate competes shorthanded

The Havre High speech and debate team managed to take second, with a team sorely depleted by the winter formal at the high school, at the City of Gold invitational tournament Friday and Saturday in Helena.

Havre took only 10 students to the tournament, but scored enough points to place higher than its nearest competitor, Butte Central High Schook, at the tournament in class ABC competition.

Western Montana ABC powerhouse Loyola High School from Missoula took first place.

Joel Benson scored points for Havre's finish by breaking into semifinals in humorous oral interpretation, and Dean Koffler scored points with wins in Lincoln-Douglas debate. The team of Mike Inabnit and Lucas Hamilton scored points with wins in policy debate.

The Havre team travels to Kalispell on Dec. 14-15 for its next tournament, the Flathead Invitational.
